Now that I have finished the first draft of book 2 its time to start thinking about book 3. As you know The Aesir Saga is a retelling of Norse Mythology. In order to do it justice I have to be well versed in the many stories that make up the northern myths.
I’m not a scholar I’m simply a fan of interesting stories. I get to take advantage of the all the work that the real scholars have already done.
The book I am currently going through is The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrun by J.R.R. Tolkien. This is Tolkien’s translation of The Volsung Saga. Here is an excerpt from the introduction by Christopher Tolkien that stood out to me.
In recent times the story of Troy has become popular once more. My hope is that I can play some small part in keeping alive ‘The Great Story of the North’
For those of you who have read Heroes of Valhalla you know that Sigurd is one of the main characters. Early on we see some of the events of the Volsung Saga play out through his eyes, as well as eluding to some of his family’s history.
In book 3 we will once again find ourselves exploring the story of Sigurd and the Volsungs.
The Kindle version of Heroes of Valhalla will be FREE this Saturday and Sunday on Amazon. This will be the last time this year that you will be able to get it for free.
If you haven’t read my short story Balder’s Dream you can get it HERE along with a variety of other FREE Fairy Tale type stories by indie authors.
